David Lin
Director
David is a feature film and commercial film director who has lived and worked in Taiwan, New York, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Boston and Shanghai. This cross-cultural upbringing gave David a unique foundation to craft a personal filmic style that is inherently Western, yet distinctively Asian.
He began his film career in New York City as a creative executive under the mentorship of executive producer Byron Wetzel (Elvis & Nixon). Wetzel recently served as the right hand man for Lee Daniels, the Oscar award-winning film producer for Monster’s Ball and Precious.
David’s commercial film experience spans more than a decade shooting projects for global brands such as Audi, Mazda, Omega and General Motors. He also directed Identity, a short film that received special nominations at the inaugural Hangzhou International Film Festival. David is currently in pre-production on a major three-movie film project with WMK-Zhonghe Studios and is working on a pilot television series.
He credits screenwriter Wang Hui-Ling (Ang Lee’s preferred screenwriter and Golden Horse Award winner) as his biggest inspiration and had the fortunate opportunity to meet her at a charity event. Since their chance meeting, she has taught David the key points of story telling and continues to mentor him along his film-making journey.
When David isn’t shooting, he is training for marathons, scuba diving or exploring new techniques in photography.
